Rock Around the Block is a family-oriented afternoon of fun and entertainment intended to reacquaint Janesville with new and exciting things happening right here in our downtown. We're creating a day of food, games, dancing, music and special events designed to foster our community spirit and sense of place.

The event is held on the last Sunday in August, from noon until 9pm. Rain or shine you can enjoy live music from local Wisconsin bands on Indoor stages and Outdoor Stages!

Other attractions at this years event will be a child/youth area sponsored by Janesville Leisure Services with a Guitar Hero Tournament and other fun games for the kids. Local businesses and non-profit organizations will have food available for purchase and a Battle of the Bands.

Rock Around the Block had its beginnings in an event called Rendezvous on the River that took place in the park near the downtown Janesville bus depot.

In 2005, it became Rock Around the Block and was sponsored by Downtown Janesville, Inc. That year, the event featured 19 bands on six stages and was attended by between 1,500 and 2,000 people.

The event has evolved since then, and is run by downtown business owners who are aided by a squadron of volunteers. Last year, the event featured 35 bands on 11 stages, and attendance topped 10,000.
